Gareth Bale is retiring. This was announced by the Welsh national football record player on Monday via Twitter.
“After careful consideration, I announce my immediate retirement from club and national team football,” wrote the 33-year-old.
Bale joined Real Madrid in 2013 for €100m and has won the Champions League five times with the Whites. Most recently, he played in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles FC and won the championship.
With Wales he took part in two European Championships and the World Cup in Qatar. At Euro 2016 in France, Wales led by Bale reached the semi-finals.
