Gardens, cycle paths and lawns under water due to a burst pipe

A pipe burst in a part of the Buitenpepers district in Den Bosch in the early morning on Friday. As a result, there has been water around the Achtste Buitenpepers for hours and dozens of houses are without water. Photos show that gardens, playgrounds, cycle paths and lawns are flooded.

The first reports about the burst pipe were received by the fire brigade at half past five. The fire brigade could only do little: it is up to Brabant Water to close the leak.

This is a spontaneous leak, Brabant Water reports to Omroep Brabant. “The water pipe has a diameter of 15 centimeters, so it supplies almost the entire neighborhood with water. Quite a lot of water comes out of that. You see that now too,” said a spokesperson.

One hundred houses are currently without water in the neighborhood. The burst water pipe has been shut off. “There is therefore now much less water flowing from the pipe than was previously the case,” said the Brabant Water spokesperson. “I think we need until four o’clock in the afternoon before the pipe is repaired and all houses have water again.”

‘Kids love it’
Martijn Verhagen lives on the Zesde Buitenpepers. “It is fairly dry here, but the Achtste Buitenpepers is really flooded. The parking lot and a grass area that we call ‘the pit’ are also flooded. Next to the pit is a small playground that is also flooded. From there the water flows to the Seventh Outside Peppers.”

The water has difficulty draining due to the frozen subsoil. The water mainly flows away through drains in the sewer. In addition, there is a chance that if it freezes, the standing water in the neighborhood will also freeze. “That ice rink wouldn’t be good,” Martijn laughs somewhat cynically. “But my children love it. They immediately shouted: ‘Yes, skating!'”
