Ganni recycles production waste into new fibers

The Danish fashion brand Ganni wants to recycle its production waste from its own T-shirt production into new clothing in the future. According to the company, conventional production methods result in up to 20 percent waste. Thanks to the new method, Ganni can put around twelve tons of cotton residue back into circulation every year.

In collaboration with partner companies in its own supply chain, Ganni has developed a new recycled yarn that meets the brand’s quality standards. The fiber-to-fiber recycled yarn, which took over 12 months to develop, is made from 50 percent recycled cotton waste and 50 percent GOTS-certified cotton, which will be used to make future t-shirts for the brand’s collections .

“Fashion supply chains are extremely complex and opaque, so things like waste streams are often ignored. We need to analyze and understand our production processes more closely to enable small but very important improvements like these. For us, this is a great case study that can be expanded to other suppliers over time,” explains Nicolaj Reffstrup, founder of Ganni.
