Gang caught after dozens of home burglaries and car thefts

The police have arrested four men, who are said to be responsible for at least 35 home burglaries and car thefts. They were mainly active in the center and west of Brabant.

In recent months, those regions have been plagued by a series of burglaries and thefts. It was hit in Bavel, Bergen op Zoom, Breda, Dorst, Etten-Leur, Gilze, Halsteren, Oosterhout, Roosendaal and Waalwijk, among others. They also struck in several places in Zeeland.

The research started last fall and has lasted almost half a year. Now the police think they have enough evidence to arrest at least part of the gang.

On March 9, three men from Bergen op Zoom (30), Roosendaal (18) and Goes (32) in Zeeland were already arrested. A few days later, on March 12, a fourth followed: a 25-year-old man from Bergen op Zoom. Police do not rule out further arrests.

The men would each time go out in a different composition and with different cars. At first they mainly focused on domestic burglaries, but at the beginning of this year they shifted their focus to cars. Toyota RAV4s in particular were targeted.

That ultimately led to the arrests. When the men tried to steal such a car on March 9, they could be arrested in Ulvenhout and Breda. The homes of the four have since been searched. Stolen items were also found there.
