Games for Nintendo Switch will probably soon be more expensive

With costs around 60 euros for new titles, Nintendo Switch games are already not exactly cheap. However, this price could even increase in the future.

“Everything is getting more expensive” – you hear and read this statement in so many areas that you almost lose track of things. Even in gaming, you are not safe from price increases. Microsoft and Sony already announced at the end of 2022 that large in-house productions for their Xbox and Playstation consoles will be around 10 US dollars more expensive in the future. Large titles for the Xbox should therefore cost around 80 euros in this country, games for the PlayStation around 90 euros. Now Nintendo seems to be jumping on the bandwagon. Games for the Nintendo Switch could therefore also increase in price.

Nintendo Switch game prices could increase by 10 euros

Nintendo’s major in-house productions include series such as Zelda, Super Mario and Kirby. At the start, the games for the Nintendo Switch usually have a price of 59.99 euros or in cases like “Zelda: Breath of the Wild” and “Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” even 69.99 euros (RRP). But shortly before the release of the new title “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” on May 12, 2023, Nintendo made an error that indicates the price increase. On the Japanese gaming giant’s website, the new Switch game was briefly listed for $69.99 – $10 more than previous blockbuster games. For Germany, this could mean that the long-awaited game for the Nintendo Switch even comes at a price of 79.99 euros.

In the USA, Nintendo has since removed the offer from the eShop. However, many other sellers are also dropping their $59.99 pre-sale deals here as well. Different in Germany. The new part of the Zelda series can be bought here for 69.99 euros, for example Amazon or even for 59.99 euros at the mail order company Otto preorder.

More details expected at the Nintendo Direct

That night, Nintendo is hosting a direct where gamers can expect not only more details about the new title “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” and other games for the first half of the year. Nintendo could also comment on the prices for upcoming Switch games in this context. The Nintendo Direct starts at 11 p.m. and lasts about 40 minutes. The stream can be viewed either on the Nintendo website or on the Youtube channel of the company.
