Game manipulation? DFB complains ex-trainer duo

The DFB accuses the ex-coach duo of VfL Osnabrück unsportsmanlike behavior, possibly even game manipulation. An oral hearing is scheduled.

VfL Osnabrück’s former coaching duo threatens to trouble. The DFB sports court set an oral hearing for Thursday, August 28, 2025. As the DFB announced on Tuesday, Marco Antwerpen and Frank Döpper are said to have behaved in the run-up to the NFV Cup final on May 24, 2025 against TuS Blau-Weiß Lohne-among other things, the suspicion of attempt manipulation is in the room.

According to the concrete allegation of the association, the trainer duo is said to have behaved “unsportsmanlike within the meaning of § 33 DFB training regulations IVM §§ 6a, 1 No. 4 of the legal and procedural order”. Paragraph 33 regulates unsportsmanlike behavior, while paragraph 6a No. 1 deals with game manipulation. Among other things, it is said that it is guilty of who as a player, referee, coach or official “on the course and/or the result of a soccer game […] With the intention of gaining an advantage or another “, unauthorized.

VfL had lost the state cup final with 2: 4 and thus missed participation in the DFB Cup. Shortly afterwards, Antwerp and Döpper were released with immediate effect despite the relegation. At the time, the club did not indicate a precise reason. Timo Schultz then took over as a new coach.

Both trainers submitted an action to be protection against dismissal, which suggests that they had been terminated without notice. According to a report by the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung”, an arbitration date at the DFB sports court did not agree.

If the allegations are confirmed, according to the DFB, the coaches face fines of up to 50,000 euros, blocks of up to two years or even withdrawal of the coaching license.
