Galeries Lafayette France launches return service

The French department store chain Galeries Lafayette offers its customers the opportunity to take back used clothing in return for a voucher that can be redeemed in the company’s branches.

The fashion industry is working everywhere on new answers to the ecological challenges of our time. One of those answers is the circular economy. The launch of a novel and free service called ‘[Re]vendez’ by Galeries Lafayette hits this notch. This service will be available in stores in Toulouse, Nice, Lyon, Annecy and Nantes from September. The brand has not yet announced whether this initiative will later be extended to all 61 branches in France and the international stores.

Alternatives for more conscious consumption

This service allows department store visitors to bring back clothes they no longer wear in exchange for a gift card valid in all of the company’s stores. “This innovative and free service makes it possible to give new life to almost new or very well-preserved items from over 700 brands in a simple, fast and immediate manner,” says the press release, which is also intended to remind of the long-term commitment of the department store chain , within the framework of which alternatives for more conscious consumption are offered. The company also carries a wide range of sustainable brands.

In concrete terms, participants can use a simulator on the company’s website to estimate the buy-back price for their pieces before visiting the store. This price takes into account several criteria such as the brand, category, material and condition of the product. In order to receive the final offer, customers must then have the return confirmed on site – in the participating shops. After delivery and confirmation of resale, they will receive a gift card that can be redeemed in stores and on the company’s website.
