Gala performance in the first half helps FC Volendam to win at the last

FC Volendam has settled with Helmond Sport tonight with great conviction. At halftime, the number one in the first division was already leading 4-0 against the red lantern. Only one goal was scored in the second half: 4-1.

Wim Jonk’s team quickly made short work of the people from Brabant. On the basis of club top scorer Rubert Mühren it was already 2-0 within ten minutes. The striker, who last scored on January 9, scored both goals. First he made a diagonal hit with the left after a pass from Daryl van Mieghem and moments later Mühren headed in at the first post from a corner from the same Van Mieghem.

Deul and Oristanio also score

That early margin of two goals was not enough for FC Volendam. Gaetano Oristanio cleverly freed himself on the right and then found the far corner with the left: 3-0. Boy Deul got the ball on a silver platter from Mühren after a counterattack in the 37th minute. The midfielder made it 4-0 by remaining cool-blooded face to face with goalkeeper Mike Havekotte.

After the break there was less good news for FC Volendam. Achraf Douiri dropped out with an apparently serious injury. He couldn’t leave the field on his own. The right back was replaced by debutant Jozhua Trusted. The youngster couldn’t prevent Ilias Breugelmans from making it 4-1 in the 85th minute.

With the win, Volendam is now unbeaten for 25 games in a row. The lead over FC Emmen remains seven points, because the people of Drenthe won 2-1 against Jong Ajax.

FC Volendam line-up: Stankovic; Douiri (Trusted/65), Benamar, Mirani, James (Eerdhuijzen/46); Oristanio (El Kadiri/56), W. Ould-Chikh (Antonucci/46), Deul (Fisher/46); B. Ould-Chikh, Mühren, Van Mieghem
