In the first playoff match of League of Legends tournament MSI, G2 lost to Gen.G after a weak start. In the lower bracket, the LEC team could be eliminated early.
“We went into the game with the attitude that we had a good chance of winning,” said G2 coach Dylan Falco in an interview after the game. “It hurts a bit that we lost. But I’m looking forward to the lower bracket.”
After successfully qualifying in the tournament’s play-ins, G2 were drawn against a difficult opponent in the Korean champions.
eSports: G2 comes back strong against Gen.G in LoL tournament MSI
In their first series since winning the LCK finals, Gen.G won the first game comfortably, and then in the second game blew G2 apart even more in under 20 minutes.
Despite falling behind again, G2 converted the third game into a win. Afterwards, however, Gen.G caught itself again and shattered all hopes of the “reverse sweep” in the fourth game.
In the lower bracket, a European duel for elimination could threaten. Against T1 around superstar Lee “Faker” Sang-Hyeok, LEC champion MAD Lions is the clear underdog.
