G2 Gozen wins first Valorant World Championship for women

G2 Gozen has arrived at the top: The women’s team of the Berlin esports organization has won the final of the Valorant Game Changers Championship 3:2 against Shopify Rebellion GC.

“Oh my god! This win means everything,” said G2’s Anastasiya “Glance” Anisimova with tears of joy in her eyes after the win.

For G2 Gozen, it’s a start-to-finish victory in the inaugural Valorant World Championship for female and non-binary players. The team went undefeated throughout the tournament, defeating second through fourth place finishers on the way to triumph with Shopify Rebellion GC, Cloud9 White and Team Liquid Brazil.

The final was a real tour de force. After defeats on the first two maps Pearl (9:13) and Bind (9:13) it didn’t look like the World Cup party for G2 at first. Too many mistakes of their own and a strong Shopify Rebellion made G2 despair.

With their backs to the wall, not only a comeback of the extra class followed, but also a demonstration of power. Cheered on by the fans at the Berlin LEC studio, G2 played themselves into a frenzy, which resulted in the final three maps of the best-of-five series – Ascent (13:3), Icebox (13:2) and Breeze (13: 5) – not only won, but dominated.

The comeback came as no surprise to the G2 players, as Petra “Petra” Stoker said after the match: “We know we can always come back and we did.”

For G2 Gozen, the success is also a satisfaction. After over a year leading the EMEA (Europe, Africa and Middle East) Valorant scene, the esports lost the Challengers Finals to Guild X in October. However, winning the Championship put them back on top Valorant throne – not only in Europe, but worldwide.
