G2 Esports has made a perfect start to the international League of Legends tournament Mid-Season Invitational. At half-time in the group stage, the team remain undefeated and are clearly at the top of their group.
“We’re expected to make it to the Rumble Stage,” G2’s jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski said in a post-game interview. “As long as we play our game it will work. But there are still many things we need to improve.”
MSI: G2 with flawless first half of the season
G2 was seen as a favorite from the start in a group of three with Evil Geniuses from North America and Australia’s Team Order. Only against the rival EG it was closer than expected on the second match day for G2 after a failed team fight. But the team around Jankos kept their nerves and didn’t let the victory be snatched away.
With a dominant performance against Order on the third matchday, G2 made the first half of the season perfect and thus further distanced themselves from the two opponents. After a rocky start, however, EG around ex-LEC player Kacper “Inspired” Słoma also slowly picked up speed and is currently sitting comfortably in second place in the group.
In the other two groups, too, the favorites clearly emerged at half-time: Both the Korean champions T1 and the Chinese defending champions RNG remained undefeated at half-time. Meanwhile, behind the favourites, the battle for entry into the Rumble Stage between the other teams is intensifying.
