Future rejects labels of toxic masculinity

Future does not address allegations of intentionally harmful behavior toward women. Rather, he himself suffered from his ex-partners.

Three features, one image

Future draws the public’s attention with three trademarks: his flair for hits, an incredible work ethic, and his rampant promiscuity. Countless affairs, ex-girlfriends and the media custody battle with ex-girlfriend Ciara reflect this. In addition, he is now said to be the father of eight – in the meantime he was in a legal dispute with two women who demanded a paternity test.

The question of the definition of “toxic”

In addition, his lyrics, which are pregnant with boasting and ignorance, further enhance the image of the heartbreaker. Critics accuse him of treating women disrespectfully and describe certain passages of his texts as misogynistic. At the same time, futures statements on the web have long since become memes. With all this criticism, Future now speaks up – he doesn’t let himself be put in the category of toxic masculinity: “Everyone has their own definition of what is toxic,” says Future in an interview with GQ. “[Diese Frauen] were all toxic to me. They just don’t want to admit it.”

Future hates Valentine’s Day

Future’s first video single of 2022 is called WORST DAY. The song is – how could it be otherwise – about his success with women. The associated desire to shower all his playmates with gifts, however, leads to resentment in Future and Valentine’s Day mutates into the most stressful day of the year. Controversial YouTuber Kevin Samuels was recruited for the clip. Among other things, Samuels is of the opinion that women overestimate their beauty and their success and thus their social value and lose it as they get older. He also rates women online on a scale and gives relationship tips. A combination that hip-hop magazine THE SOURCE called “toxic all-stars”.

Lousy PR

A typical publicity stunt, as Future himself admits. At the same time, however, he emphasizes that he did not know Kevin Samuel before filming. Because of his image problems, he would otherwise have rejected the casting of Samuel: “If I had known who he was before the video, I would have thought it was a typical move”. “People associate me with being toxic. I would have thought it over.”
