After the handsome 3-1 win of his Young AZ over MVV, Maarten Martens still has three games left as head coach of the Alkmaar U21 team. The Belgian former professional already announced last month that he no longer wants to be part of the group next season and that he is ready for a new challenge.
“Of course I am mainly talking to Max Huiberts to see what exactly the interpretation will be. I hope we can come to a conclusion”, Martens responds to questions about his future plans. “I really want to stay at AZ. I’ve always said that. It must be an added value for everyone.”
The head coachship of Jong AZ is therefore a passed station for 38-year-old Martens. Assistant coach in the first team is still a good option. “Then you don’t say anything crazy. But that doesn’t make it clear. I’m going to try to figure it out with AZ and then we’ll see,” said Martens.
The last three matches of Jong AZ under Martens will be against TOP Oss (home), Jong Ajax (away) and ADO Den Haag (home).
