After weeks of poker, the decision about Marco Reus’ future at Borussia Dortmund has apparently been made. The BVB captain’s contract expires next summer.
As “Bild” reports, the 33-year-old offensive player and “his” Borussia have agreed on a further extension until 2024.
Accordingly, the expansion of the cooperation is only a matter of form. In the coming week, Reus will put his signature under the new contract, it is said.
According to the report, the previous top earner has to accept significant financial losses: So far, Reus has received twelve million euros per season from BVB. In all probability, his last year of contract should only be able to bring him up to seven million including bonuses into the coffers.
Explosive: The news of the alleged fixed Reus extension comes a day after BVB’s 2-1 win in the top game against Union Berlin, in which Reus was only used as a joker – and shortly after his poor performance in the important duels FC Bayern in the league last weekend (2:4) and RB Leipzig in the DFB Cup (0:2).
BVB: Foreign offers for Marco Reus?
Afterwards, the leadership player debate flared up again around the black and yellow, with Reus in focus. The doubts about him had also grown with managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke and sports director Sebastian Kehl, reported “Sport Bild”. Apparently, this had no effect on the contract talks.
In addition to the question of salary, the sticking point in the negotiations should also have been the term. According to media reports, there was now a two-year contract for Reus.
Born in Dortmund, he was said to have aroused interest abroad. He could have earned a lot more there. However, Reus had never publicly made a secret of his motivation to want to end his career at BVB.
