Future at BVB? Raphael Guerreiro makes you sit up and take notice

Raphael Guerreiro has spoken openly about his contract with Borussia Dortmund, which expires in the summer of 2023. He can well imagine a future at BVB.

No poker, no reserved statements: Raphael Guerreiro swore allegiance to Borussia Dortmund even before the official start of contract negotiations.

“I like stability. If I feel comfortable in a club, and that’s absolutely the case with BVB, then I’ll be happy to stay,” quoted “Sport Bild” from Borussia’s left-back.

“In my opinion, Dortmund is a big club. I play an important role here and I’m a regular player,” said Guerreiro, who has been with the Black and Yellows since 2016, emphasizing the advantages of staying long-term.

“With a new club I would have to prove myself all over again. If I don’t play, I don’t feel good,” explained the 28-year-old Portuguese, before emphasizing again: “I feel very comfortable at BVB.”

BVB: So far “only loose talks” with Raphael Guerreiro

However, the whole thing still has a catch, because there are still no negotiations about an extension of his contract.

“The people in charge and I will talk to each other in due course. That hasn’t happened yet,” revealed Guerreiro, adding: “There have only been loose talks, but nothing concrete yet. I would definitely be ready because I feel here very well.”

Guerreiro came to Dortmund from FC Lorient five and a half years ago and cost twelve million euros at the time. Since then, the versatile defender has made 177 appearances for Borussia. He scored at least 32 goals. He was also responsible for 34 templates.

Since joining BVB, he has “also had the opportunity to change,” said Guerreiro. But he didn’t take that into account.
