Futsal players VNS United maintain themselves in the premier league: “Relief for everyone at the club”

With only one game to play, newcomer VNS United has managed to maintain itself in the premier league of futsal. For that, the team from Amsterdam still had to win against ZZV Den Haag last night, and they succeeded. Through after every season since its foundation in 2016 the football players from Amsterdam-Noord have once again proven to be among the best futsal players in the Netherlands.

Last night’s game started smoothly for the team from Amsterdam. There were no goals on either side for a long time. In the end it was the team from Amsterdam who took a 2-0 lead against ZVV Den Haag. “After the first goal against, the players of VNS United thought ‘this isn’t going to happen, is it?”thus Chairman of VNS UnitedKhalid Heyouf, impending relegation. Shortly afterwards it quickly became 3-1 and the team from Amsterdam dominated the rest of the game. VNS United eventually won 8-3 against the club from The Hague.

“Last night’s win was a real relief for everyone at the club, this gives us time to build our association. Where last year we only had three days to register all players, we now have at least a month more for all preparations “says Heyouf.

“We can only develop even more from now on”

Khalid Heyouf, President of VNS United

The Premier League feeling

Heyouf says that the team has done everything it can to stay in the premier league. He is already looking forward to next season. “The boys now have another year of premier league experience. We can only develop even more from now on. This is very good for the club.”

Every game, at least 50 to 100 people come to cheer on VNS United. Even on Eid-al-Fitr, which happened to fall on a match day, the loyal spectators showed up. For Heyouf, the home match against FC Eindhoven was the highlight of the season. “It was full house and then I thought, ‘this is the premier league.’ Too bad about the loss, but we just don’t have the same quality yet.”

“Starting on a square and then progressing to the first team, I am very proud of that”

Sofyan Mbarki, councilor for sports

Derby

Sports councilor Sofyan Mbarki was also present and was proud to see that players who once started on the square are now playing at the highest level, with the very best in the country: “It’s great to see that VNS United, after their promotion to the premier league last year now also retains their position in the rankings. With Lebo from Nieuw-West and VNS United from Noord, two Amsterdam clubs play in the premier league futsal. That is very special, in addition to being a popular sport among many Amsterdammers, both teams exist for a large part of Amsterdam talent from their own neighborhood.”

Heyouf hopes that they will meet ASV Lebo next season and thus continue the history of two Amsterdam clubs at the highest level. “Previously you had the derby of ASV Lebo against Knooppunt. Since that club no longer exists, I notice that the city is yearning for a derby again. We give it to Amsterdam and want to bring back the same atmosphere in a full Sporthallen Zuid.”
