Fuss about ‘Iron Curtain’ for supporters of TOP Oss

There is a commotion among supporters about a map shared by TOP Oss in the run-up to the derby against FC Den Bosch on March 8. The ticket shows who is allowed to buy a ticket for the match and who is not. There is a line on a map that reminds supporters of the Iron Curtain. The club now calls this much-discussed card ‘ill-thought-out and stupid’. “We were shocked by the comparisons with the Second World War, that is absolutely not our intention.”

Are you from Vinkel? Then you can buy a ticket for the match on March 8 without any problems. You must show your ID, otherwise you will not be allowed entry into the Frans Heesen Stadium. But do you come from neighboring Nuland, just like Vinkel from the municipality of ‘s-Hertogenbosch? Then you are out of luck, because TOP Oss does not allow people from that place of residence.

No supporters of the visiting club are welcome at matches between TOP Oss and FC Den Bosch until the 2026/2027 season. This was decided in 2022 after the football match resulted in disturbances.

The Osse club has published a card with a line on it ‘based on safety considerations’. Residents of the places on the left of that line are not allowed to buy a ticket, but they can buy one on the right. The line ends below Sint-Oedenrode. In retrospect, the Osse club calls the ticket not that smart.

“This commotion is the last thing we wanted.”

“Publishing this card with little context was not smart of us. We read a lot of commotion on social media, even comparisons with the Iron Curtain. This commotion is the last thing we wanted,” says communications officer Tim Claessen.

The ‘line’ around ticket sales remains, but this does not appear to be news. “The club has also implemented this policy in the past five years. This is due to information from our safety coordinator. Now we have only made it visual because we regularly had discussions in the fanshop. Then someone had just been in the car for 40 minutes and he could not buy a ticket. We hope to provide more clarity with this ticket. But in retrospect we should have handled that better.”

“There’s been enough bullshit.”

All in all, Claessen hopes that the derby will go off without any problems. “There has been enough hassle in recent years. We want every visitor to enjoy a safe and enjoyable match.”
