The sports world is looking forward to the giant fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. Former boxing professional Axel Schulz explains in an interview what is important in the ring battle and decides on a winner.
The second round between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk electrifies the sports scene. On Saturday evening, the heavyweight belts of the world associations WBA, WBC and WBO are at stake. Ex-professional boxer Axel Schulz is also “crazy” looking forward to the fight, as he said in an exclusive interview with RTL/ntv and sport.de reveals.
The 56-year-old sees Tyson Fury as the favorite despite the defeat in the first fight. In May, the Brit suffered the first defeat of his professional career against Usyk.
“I think he gave away the victory in the ninth or tenth round. In the ninth round he was called in the first fight. And because of that he lost the points. That was a narrow victory for Usyk,” said Schulz, looking at the first fight back.
Usyk is an “absolutely great boxer”, but the size difference gives Fury a huge advantage, “that’s why I’m incredibly excited to see how the rematch turns out,” said Schulz.
Can Fury exploit the size advantages against Usyk this time?
What does the “Gypsy King” have to do better in the rematch?
“Fury made a lot of faxes in the first fight, tried to provoke him a lot, which didn’t work out that way. And Usyk deservedly won back then. So especially because of the knockdown in the ninth round or the count in the ninth round. There will be yes then always given one more point.”
But Schulz assumes that the duel will be different this time – at least from Fury’s side.
Schulz predicts that Usyk will try to make the fight similar to the first and try to get into the opponent and dictate the fight. Nevertheless, he sees the challenger as having an advantage, provided he is committed.
“If Fury leaves out the jokes he made in the first fight, making faxes and provoking, I think he will now go into the fight more focused because that is a huge opportunity to become immortal.”
Schulz: Fury learned from his mistakes
Schulz’s prediction: “I believe that Fury will win on points. So I don’t think he will knock Usyk out. Usyk is simply too strong for that, also in terms of his head and nerves. He moves very well .”
Schulz suggests that Fury won’t make the same mistake again of “driving himself too far into reverse gear.” “So that’s sometimes an advantage, sometimes a disadvantage, when you have duels against the same opponent and for such a short time, seven months in a row. But it’s always a good opportunity for everyone to better prepare for it,” said the ex- Professional. “If you have the rematch, then you know exactly what you did wrong in the first fight. And I just believe: Fury made a lot of mistakes in the first fight, especially with his provocative nature – he will have learned from that.”
The test will take place on Saturday evening in Riyadh.
