The highly anticipated boxing showdown for the undisputed heavyweight crown between Tyson Fury (35) and Oleksandr Usyk (36) will take place on February 17, 2024 in Riyadh. This was announced at a press conference on Thursday evening.
The last date for the fight was December 23rd. Since Fury had a surprisingly difficult time in his exhibition fight against MMA star Francis Ngannou at the end of October, there had already been speculation that the Usyk fight could be postponed to the new year.
Fury had won the duel with boxing novice Ngannou after a split judge’s decision, but was knocked down in the third round.
Fury’s world title according to the WBC association’s version was not at stake against Ngannou. The Brit (35 fights, 34 wins, one draw) wants to be crowned undisputed world champion against the Ukrainian WBA, WBO and IBF champion Usyk (21 fights, 21 wins).
His compatriot Lennox Lewis last won this status in 1999. At that time, the holder of the WBA, WBC and IBF belts was considered undisputed.
