The corona infections have increased again in recent weeks. However, the current virus variant is less sickening and the number of people admitted to the ICU with corona is limited. That is why the cabinet has decided to further relax the corona measures. There are still some recommendations. The cabinet has not yet planned a new weighing moment, but is keeping a close eye on the situation.

In case of complaints: stay home and take a test

The following applies to everyone with complaints: stay at home and do a self-test. Is the result positive? Then make an appointment for a test at the GGD and go into isolation for at least 5 days. You can go outside again if you have no complaints in the last 24 hours. It is no longer necessary to test yourself if you have no complaints. So pupils, students and teaching staff no longer have to take preventive tests twice a week before they go to school or their training.

It quarantine advice stays unchanged.

working from home

The current work from home advice will expire. In recent years we have gained many positive experiences with working from home. And many people want to continue to work partly from home. The cabinet calls on employers to make agreements with employees to permanently encourage hybrid working. The cabinet is asking for extra attention for employees who have concerns about their health. They must also be able to work safely. The following applies to employees with complaints: stay at home and take a test. If the test is positive: go into isolation and work from home if you can.

wearing mouth caps

The obligation to wear face masks in and around public transport will expire on Wednesday 23 March. Where it is busy, you can protect yourself and others by wearing a face mask.

For the time being, it remains mandatory to wear a face mask on the plane and at the airport after security.

No more Testing for Access (1G) from March 23

Testing for access (1G) still applies to larger nightclubs and large unplaced events (more than 500 visitors). From Wednesday 23 March, the public can also enter these locations without Testing for Access. There are then no more locations where the corona admission ticket is valid. It is recommended that you leave the CoronaCheck app on your phone. For several countries, the QR code is still necessary for travel or for, for example, a visit to catering, cinema or theater.

entering the Netherlands

For people traveling to the Netherlands from within the EU/Schengen, the obligation to have a test, recovery or vaccination certificate will expire from 23 March. There are also no entry measures for EU citizens who travel to the Netherlands from countries outside the EU/Schengen. For anyone traveling to the Netherlands, it is advised to do a self-test immediately after arrival and on day 5. Non-EU citizens are still subject to an EU entry ban. There are exceptions, for example for travel from safe countries, people who have been vaccinated or recovered and for certain travel purposes.

Living with corona

Corona is not gone. People will still get sick from corona. Fortunately, vaccination works well and in addition, many people have built up resistance due to an infection. As a result, the consequences of a new wave of infections are less severe than in 2020 and 2021.

A corona infection can still be very annoying for healthy people. Corona remains a greater risk for people who are older, or who have fragile health. Some advice still helps to prevent contamination:

  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Cough and sneeze into your elbow.
  • Stay at home if you have complaints and do a (self) test.
  • Ventilate indoor areas and provide fresh air.
  • Get your vaccination, booster or repeat shot

This protects yourself, your family, friends and others. And take into account people who are concerned about their own health, for example because they are older or chronically ill.

Respect each other’s choices

Be considerate of each other. Keep your distance if someone asks. Do you have an appointment with someone who is concerned about his or her health? Then do a self-test first. And respect each other’s choices, for example if someone wears a mask in a place where you wouldn’t do it yourself.

Basic advice against corona: wash hands, cough and sneeze in your elbow, stay home with complaints and take a test, provide plenty of fresh air and get a vaccine, booster or repeat shot.
