SpVgg Greuther Fürth scored three important points in the basement duel of the 2nd Bundesliga against 1. FC Magdeburg. The Fürth team won 3-0 (0-0) against FCM with Julian Green (64′), an own goal by Daniel Heber (69′) and another goal by Lukas Petkov (75′).
In front of 11,619 fans, the Franconians were able to score three points again after three games without a win, while the Magdeburg’s winning streak came to an end. They had recently scored seven points from three games without defeat. Fürth now has 30 points, Magdeburg have scored 28 points so far.
Fürth initially unsettled
Both teams tried to control the game, but neither team was able to develop clear optical advantages. The people of Fürth seemed a little unsettled after the recent failures, while the people of Saxony-Anhalt showed self-confidence based on the latest results.
Ragnar Ache radiated most of the danger among the Fürthern, although he rarely managed to radiate real danger. However, Ache had his first chances in the fourth and 25th minute. Fürths Petkov (34′) probably had the best chance, but missed the ball free-standing.
Fürther double strike ensures decision
The FCM acted self-disciplined and well organized. However, there was little going forward, Magdeburg did not get their first shot on goal until the 45th minute.
In the second half, Fürth made the early decision with a double strike and a 2-0 lead. First, Joker Green scored with a powerful shot from the edge of the penalty area (64th).
Then the ball bounced unhappily from Heber’s chest into the goal (69′). At 3:0, FCM keeper Dominik Reimann assisted with a big mistake.
Fürth has to go to Paderborn
The Fürthers will now continue next Sunday (April 2nd, 2023) with an away game at SC Paderborn. At the same time, 1. FC Magdeburg welcomes Hansa Rostock.
