More than 34 million dollars is the price of Diego and I“, of Frida Kahlo and becomes the most expensive painting in Latin America and the most expensive of those acquired by Eduardo Costantini, founder of MALBA. It is displayed next toSelf-portrait with monkey and parrot” (1942), another painting by the Mexican artist that belongs to the museum’s collection.
The inauguration, with free admission, attracted some 2,000 people who lined up on the first floor to see the work up close, which is displayed in a dimly lit chapel, along with other objects by the artist. The work is part of an exhibition that bears the name of “Third Eye” and that also offers works of Wilfredo Lam, Monteiro, Victor Brecheret, alice rahon, Mario Carreno, Rubens Gerchmann, Antonio Dias Y Raphael Barradasamong others.
“Dance in Tehuantepec”, of the painter Diego Rivera (Frida’s partner), is next in value at $15.7 million. Also purchased by Costantinhad broken the record when it was acquired.
