Italian accessories brand Furla has announced that its new Furla Progetto Italia headquarters, in the heart of the Chianti region, has received ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system. This is awarded when an environmental management system is in place and to help companies classify, manage, monitor and control their emissions.
“This important achievement demonstrates Furla’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact. Furla Progetto Italia was developed with a holistic approach aimed at minimizing the impact of industrial activities on the Chianti area. In this new location, our management is constantly looking for innovative and sustainable solutions for our products,” commented Giovanna Furlanetto, President of Fondazione Furla, in a statement.
As part of its “Sustainability Roadmap 2030”, the group is working on a strategy that defines specific projects and goals from year to year in order to produce in a way that is less harmful to the environment and people. The roadmap is divided into three main areas designed to promote environmental responsibility, social engagement, responsible sourcing and eco-innovation.
One of the first concrete actions that Furla is taking is offsetting CO2 emissions from e-commerce by purchasing “Green Credits” to support a climate protection project. The main goal of this mission is to support local communities to save more than 250,000 hectares of forest from deforestation as well as create a basin of great biodiversity. In addition, the project contributes to the creation of jobs and the sustainable development of one of the most remote villages in Tanzania.
Previously, Furla had already obtained ISO 45001:2018 certification and accordingly, in 2019, implemented an Occupational Health and Safety Management System in all Italian Furla sites and stores. In addition, the ISO 14067 certification defines the principles, requirements and guidelines for quantifying the carbon footprint of services, specifically for Furla’s e-commerce shipping.
Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (Florence) is also home to the company’s production platform, which Furla acquired in 2018.
