The donation campaign is a follow-up to Super Saturday, the day of action of the food banks in Drenthe. The campaign on Saturday, December 9, in which dozens of volunteers distributed flyers at supermarkets, yielded more than 2,500 crates of food, with a total value of approximately one hundred and fifty thousand euros.
Fewer products from supermarkets
The food banks are conducting the fundraiser to replenish their stocks so that they can provide their clients with basic products such as rice, pasta, coffee, oil and care products. According to the food banks, the collection campaign is desperately needed because they notice that they are receiving fewer and fewer products from supermarkets.
“We see that supermarkets have fewer and fewer products left to donate to the food bank at the end of the day,” says Sleeking. “That happens everywhere and it means that we receive far fewer products that way. If you want to put together a decent package, we have no choice but to buy more.”
