The patience of Texel enthusiasts was put to the test today. At times, motorists had to wait two hours before entering the ferry. “We have been fully booked since half past nine,” says Rieuwert Pol, TESO’s head of operational services.
Anyone who has prepared well knows that the waiting time can increase considerably. Traditionally, the Easter weekend is one of the busiest weekends on Texel. Then thousands of Dutch and foreign holidaymakers go to the island to enjoy the spring sun and nature.
Once on the ferry you will almost exclusively see smiling faces. “We’re going to the campsite”, says a woman who carries her daughter on her arm.” Another passenger says that “it is a tradition to leave with ten of us”.
Two boats
The TESO currently has two ferries in service: the Dokter Wagemaker and the Texelstroom. “We can park a total of 650 cars per hour,” says Rieuwert Pol, “that’s just not possible.”
“It’s almost back to normal,” says Frank Spooren, director of VVV Texel. Moreover, he already sees quite a few of our eastern neighbors crossing the Marsdiep. “We are not following the trend that the NBTC outlines about the wait-and-see attitude of German tourists.”
