Full house and three points – Union gets in the derby mood

This is how football is really fun again! In Union’s 1-0 win against Cologne, the Alte Försterei in Berlin was sold out for the first time since the Hertha derby (2-0) on November 20.

22,012 fans make a lot of noise in the stands, including them ultras are on both sides again for the first time! Since the capital club had dropped the corona restrictions in the run-up to the game, the spectators no longer even have to wear a mask in the stands!

Of course, both fan groups are hot. In both the home and away blocks, the fans ignite pyrotechnics before the game and flare up again and again during the game.

Unfortunately, both teams are not intoxicated by the awesome atmosphere. The fans wait a long time for a chance before Union striker Becker seriously tests Cologne keeper Schwäbe for the first time (25th).

Cologne spontaneously has to do without Torgarant Anthony Modeste (33), who is in bed with a fever. Without the French, the offensive game of the Domstadt remains too harmless. Hector’s biggest chance (39th) only comes from a pinball scene in the Union penalty area.

Then the people of Cologne give the 0:1 themselves!

49 minutes: ex-national player Jonas Hector (31) plays a back pass to the goal from the left. However, the ball becomes the perfect template for Taiwo Awoniyi (24), who sprints in between and gratefully accepts the invitation from a short distance. 1-0 for Union!

Cologne didn’t wake up after that either, didn’t record a shot on goal in the second round. Due to the bankruptcy, Union overtakes Cologne and is now in seventh place.

The Union party is only overshadowed by a depressing incident: while the Union fans are cheering after the 1-0 win, a supporter falls over the fence onto the ground. At the height of the corner flag, there is an emergency operation, the Ultras stop supporting them. In the 62nd minute, the trailer, who is said to be conscious, is taken to the hospital by paramedics.
