FC Volendam has nicely closed the first season since the return to the premier league. It became 3-2 at home against Excelsior, after it was 3-0 at halftime. Full tension in the second half, but it did yield three points.
The start of Volendam was excellent. Daryl van Mieghem, the top scorer of the Eel farmers, put his team 1-0. The sun started to shine even more for Volendam after this, as goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel helped them on their way with an own goal. Franco Antonucci even made it 3-0 within half an hour.
Comeback almost complete
As simple as the first half was for Volendam, it was so difficult after the break. Lazaros Lamprou made the 3-1 out of nowhere and nothing seemed to be wrong. That changed when Nikolas Agrafiotis scored 3-2. In the final phase, Excelsior’s comeback seemed complete. Reda Kharchouch missed a penalty and Agrafiotis used the rebound, the VAR put a stop to that. That kept it 3-2 and Volendam won. The first season back in the premier league ended with a fourteenth place.
