Fugitive Beverwijker (52) arrested in Benidorm | Inland

Media in Spain write about the arrest on the Costa Blanca by the national police. The National Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Prosecution Service in the Netherlands confirms the arrest of the fugitive man.

“He still has 1429 days in jail, after the 191 days he has already been in custody,” said a spokeswoman. “The procedure for his surrender to the Netherlands is ongoing, it is not yet clear when that will happen.”

The North Hollander had been hiding in the city on the east coast of Spain for months, media in the country say. Images from the national police show that he is put in a police car in a leather jacket and with slip-on shoes, to be taken away from his hiding place.

He was previously sentenced in our country to a prison sentence of 4.5 years. In addition to the Netherlands, he was also wanted in Spain and Denmark for various crimes. A European arrest warrant had been issued against him for large-scale drug trafficking (particularly in cocaine), money laundering, membership of a criminal organization and bearing false papers, media reported.

During his arrest, the man had no ID on him, so he could not identify himself to officers. After an investigation, the police found out who he was, after which he was transferred to a detention center at the National Supreme Court in Madrid, waiting for a decision on whether and when he will be put on the plane to our country.
