The rapper brought her former bandmates on stage to perform six Fugees songs.
The Fugees played a surprise reunion concert on Friday (June 2) as part of Lauryn Hill’s performance at the Roots Picnic festival hosted by The Roots. The 48-year-old rapper performed her album THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL (1998) in full to celebrate the record’s 25th anniversary. Hill, with musical accompaniment from The Roots, finally brought Pras Michel and Wyclef Jean on stage to present six Fugees tracks.
Among others there were hits like “How Many Mics”, “Zealots” and “Killing Me Softly With His Song”. The performance made a tried and tested impression, which is why the hope of a possible reunion tour should not be completely buried.
The band had already announced a reunion tour in 2021. It was initially postponed, then finally canceled completely in January 2022. The three artists cited the corona pandemic and the difficult conditions it creates for concerts and tours as the reason for this. At the time, however, there were reports that Pras Michel’s trial could be the reason for the cancellation. The rapper was found guilty in April 2023 by US federal court in Washington, DC of involvement in illegal campaign contributions, money laundering and witness tampering.
