Fuel more expensive and more expensive: price for petrol in Zoetermeer increased by more than 20 percent

To fuel? Just open your wallet. Fuel prices in Zoetermeer have risen sharply over the past twelve months. A liter of petrol at a local gas station in our municipality now costs an average of 21.27 percent more than in the same month last year.

This is apparent from an analysis by comparison site Independer based on data from consultancy Petrolview on behalf of AD. Filling stations on the highway have not been taken into account in the calculation of these averages.

Fuel Prices in Zoetermeer

The average price for a liter of Euro 95 at a local gas station in the municipality of Zoetermeer has now risen to Euro 1,997. By way of comparison: last year the average liter price in the same month was still at 1,647 euros.

Not only is there an increase in fuel prices compared to last year, petrol has also become more expensive compared to January this year. For example, in January this year in Zoetermeer you paid an average of 1,967 euros per liter when paying for your petrol.

The price of diesel has also risen sharply in recent times. In January 2021, for example, you paid an average of 1,287 euros for a liter of diesel at a local pump in Zoetermeer. That has now risen to an average of 1,696 euros. That is an increase of 25.71 percent compared to February last year.

Cause of rising prices

Prices at the pump have been rising for some time. This is partly due to the tensions at the border between Russia and Ukraine and the high demand for fuel caused by the economic recovery from the corona crisis. Another factor is the fact that the large oil-producing countries of oil cartel OPEC and ally Russia continue to be prepared to open the oil tap considerably extra.

Refueling along the highway

Although the prices at the local gas pump are skyrocketing, in comparison with the pump on the highway, refueling in your hometown is relatively cheaper. According to Joyce Donat of the Consumers’ Association, the fact that people continue to refuel along the highway is partly because many motorists have no choice. “If your tank is empty, or if you don’t have an unmanned pump in your village, you almost have to. Motorists with a company fuel card will also have less difficulty with the price difference.”

Why is refueling along the highway so much more expensive? According to Donat, it has to do with ease of use and necessity. “We have never researched the big difference between refueling along the highway and at an unmanned pump, but service at motorway service stations has increased enormously in recent years. Because of all the personnel that is needed for this, the petrol is more expensive than with an unmanned pump.”
