FSV Mainz 05 | Career like Tuchel or Klopp? Siewert reacts modestly

Bundesliga coach Jan Siewert is currently not thinking about starting a great career from FSV Mainz 05.

When asked by “kicker” whether he had this in mind, the 41-year-old said: “No. I never had the absolute goal of becoming a Bundesliga coach, but rather focused on doing the tasks at hand well and to influence what I could directly influence positively.” That’s how it is to this day, “and I think everything else doesn’t make sense in this fast-moving business.”

The former Mainz football teachers Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel now look after top clubs at FC Liverpool and FC Bayern Munich. Both have had great careers after starting in Mainz.

Siewert succeeded the departed Bo Svensson last fall, but has only won one Bundesliga game. “We clearly don’t have enough points for our demands and our achievements. We have to develop the ultimate desire to win games in which we are superior,” said Siewert.

At the moment it looks as if the relegated teams will be identified among the last four teams in the Bundesliga. Union Berlin has 14 points. Behind them are Mainz, newly promoted SV Darmstadt 98 and 1. FC Köln with eleven points each.
