Frustration at Ajax after elimination: “Field play nice, but that’s no use”

The anger was clearly visible among the players of Ajax. After the loss against Union Berlin, a number of players let themselves go in a fight. “These things happen in football,” says Dusan Tadic.

“It was a strange game, but I’m proud of the team. You have to try not to make mistakes, but I’m proud of how the team fought for it,” says Tadic at Veronica after the game. The captain therefore did not think it was strange that things had to be calmed down afterwards.

In the Champions League the adventure ended in the group stage and now in the Europa League the intermediate round is the end point. Tadic was asked whether Ajax has something to look for in Europe. The Serbian responded clearly to that. “No, I disagree. Did you watch the game? We were the better team. Of course we can’t be happy with the result, but I thought we were much better. We deserved to continue.”

Trainer John Heitinga saw a match with two faces in Berlin. “We dominated, but we conceded two very bad goals. Then they come into their power and you have to repair,” says Heitinga. “You are not always rewarded. At times the field game was nice, but that is of no use to you.”
