Frost in Drenthe in the run-up to King’s Day, sun will come later

Early birds at the free markets on King’s Day should dress warmly, because it will freeze next night. When the night frost has disappeared, a pleasant sales day awaits, with sunshine and hardly any wind.

So it will be cold the night before King’s Day. “It will freeze in the weather hut, maybe only 1 degree, but it will freeze. That is at nose height,” says RTV Drenthe weatherman Hans Nienhuis. “On the ground it can get to -3, -4 to four in sheltered spots.”

The good news is that the temperature will rise considerably during the morning. Nienhuis: “It will be 11 to 12 degrees. We will get sun with cloud fields and it seems to remain dry with very little wind. Stands and tents will therefore remain standing.”

With the predicted night frost and temperatures during the day, King’s Day will be colder than the turn of the year and New Year’s Day. “But that says more about the crazy high temperatures then, than about King’s Day. The weather is very normal before the end of April. It can also be 6 degrees this time of year, or above 20. But we have seen the last ten years that King’s Day is often a somewhat cooler day,” concludes Nienhuis.

After King’s Day, temperatures will creep up, although it will be drizzly with drizzle on Friday. Temperatures rise to 13, 14, 15 degrees. Night frost is no longer an issue.
