From Wednesday there will also be mobile speed cameras along Brabant roads

Drivers: beware. Speed cameras can also appear in unexpected places from now on. Mobile speed cameras have been deployed since Tuesday and also in Brabant from Wednesday. Another thirty ‘flexible flashes’ will be added next year.

“Speed cameras are not there to increase the public treasury, but to promote road safety,” responds traffic expert Paul van de Coevering of Breda University. He can only applaud the fact that mobile speed cameras will also be installed in Brabant.

In the past two years, various tests have been carried out with the mobile speed camera. “The big advantage of such a pole is that it can be installed quickly without having to apply for permits. Thanks to solar panels, no electricity cables have to be laid either.”

In Brabant, Bergen op Zoom (Randweg West) and Tilburg (Ringbaan-Zuid) are the first to become acquainted with the movable speed camera. “Such poles work well in places where it is easy to drive too fast,” says the Breda traffic expert. “Think of places where work is being done on the road. As soon as it is finished, they can also leave.”

“Wide roads also often invite speeding, while this leads to nuisance and dangerous situations,” the traffic expert continues. “Think of Heense Molen where crossing was not without risk.”

“The speed camera, the speed camera notifications and the mobile speed camera work psychologically“, says Paul van de Coevering. “Car drivers know that they are at risk and are more aware of their speed. Often drivers do not drive too fast on purpose, but this happens ‘automatically’ because it seems that they are not speeding. There is no cure for the notorious speeder.”
