In Lower Saxony, an FFP2 mask requirement is to apply to the entire retail sector from Tuesday. The state government agreed on Saturday to make a corresponding change to the Corona regulation on Monday and to put it into force on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health in Hanover announced. There should be no distinction between shops for everyday needs and other retail shops.
The measure is a reaction to the 2G rule overturned by the Higher Administrative Court (OVG) Lüneburg. The OVG cashed this requirement for business on Thursday because, from the judges’ point of view, it was not necessary to further contain the coronavirus and was also not compatible with the general principle of equality.
With the FFP2 mask requirement, according to the ministry, the government is implementing what is still legally feasible in terms of protective measures for this area according to the OVG decision. “We are still convinced that the 2G rule would have offered an even higher level of protection, but the topic is now off the table for the time being,” said Health Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD).
