We regularly ask our fellow citizens about their favorite places in Zoetermeer. This can be a pedicure salon, your own street, a bakery, fishmonger, shopping center, dental office, park or whatever. This week it’s Michel Bezuijen’s turn. He is not only our mayor, but also, like us, a Zoetermeer. Read his favorite addresses in Zoetermeer below.

In green

Michel Bezuijen appreciates the abundance of greenery in our city. “From my house I regularly walk towards the Bentwoud. On Sundays I regularly go for a ten-kilometer run. Recently I was given a tour by a forester in the Balijbos. Also such a beautiful place!”

Coupe & Color

Michel has his hair cut every five weeks. “I like going to the hair salon Coup & Color in the Oosterheem shopping center,” he says. “Hairdresser Ellen cuts my hair back into a neat model. She once said that she has sometimes cut Mark Rutte in the past. I am always very satisfied when I have been there again.”

Black Bird Bakery

Often on Saturdays, Michel cycles to the Dorpsstraat to buy freshly baked bread at Black Bird Bakery. “I love that bread so much. Recently I tasted the lemon cake with poppy seeds: that is highly recommended. I will take the cinnamon rolls home with me soon. I have heard that they are also very tasty.”

Nieuwenburg

For a beautiful bunch of flowers I go to Nieuwenburg on the Oranjelaan,” says Michel. “We often also have flowers from this Zoetermeer florist at City Hall. I usually drive by there for a bunch of red roses for my wife. They just sell good flowers.”

Own backyard

Only recently Michel had a veranda installed in his backyard. “I have a lovely backyard in Oosterheem. The garden house has a glass wall so that you can sit in it in different weather conditions. We are wonderfully protected from the wind.” His wife is the one with the green thumb in the house. “We have a lot of greenery, but also vegetables such as onions and garlic. Even hedgehogs live in our garden.”

Karaday

Michael’s guilty pleasure? Hairdresser’s! Delicious with fries, chicken, cheese and garlic sauce. “Every week I get two portions of hairdressing salon at Karadag in the Oosterheem shopping center. The tastiest there is! I get there on time, usually before dinner time, because otherwise it is very busy and you have to wait half an hour.”
