from the film to the new chapter

The new Pokémon Presents on February 27th could reserve some big surprises: here’s what you can expect (realistically).

Pokémon Day is upon us and players can’t wait to see the next announcements from the Pokémon world. Obviously, there are many rumors going around about what will be shown at the new Pokémon Presents, even if there is nothing certain yet, given that The Pokémon Company has not expressed itself on the matter except with some (misunderstandable) teasers.

What to expect from Pokémon Presents —

However, as Pokémon experts, we have come up with a number of predictions about what might be announced. Brace yourselves, because this is what we think will appear at Pokémon Presents on February 27th.

Update for service games

Each Pokémon Presents begins with a series of updates and events coming to its live-service games. These announcements usually include free in-game items, upcoming events, and other news. We expect to see updates for Café Remix, Unite, Masters EX, Go, Sleep and potentially TCG Live. Announcements related to service games are usually not revolutionary, but they are welcome updates to most people.

Presentation of the World Cup

This year’s Pokémon World Championships will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, but we’ve only seen a short teaser of the event so far. The Championships host competitive tournaments for Go, TCG, Unite, and Scarlet & Violet. We will probably see the exact dates of the event and other information about what will happen there.

Events for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the first mainline Pokémon game to include live service elements, and it was a huge success. With regular Mystery Gifts and Teracristal Raids, it’s likely we’ll see some of these announcements during Pokémon Presents. Last year there was a big Mewtwo event, but this year we haven’t heard anything as big as that. However, expect the announcement of a new seven-star raid and perhaps some mysterious gifts.

Pokémon Movies

After the success of Detective Pikachu and Super Mario Bros. The Movie, we think another Pokémon movie is likely. The sequel to the original Detective Pikachu game was released last year, so Detective Pikachu Returns is a likely candidate for a movie. Pokémon have often featured in animated films in the past, but we haven’t had one since 2020, so this is another potential reveal. We also expect announcements of Pokémon TV shows, shorts, and series.

Pokémon Classics on Switch

This is less likely, but we still believe there will be some announcement at Presents. The teaser for the event featured music from Pokémon Red and Blue, and it has been rumored that these games could be coming to Switch soon. We don’t know if these will be games that can be purchased individually or if they will be added to Nintendo Switch Online for free. However, players have been calling for the return of Red and Blue on Switch, and that would be a welcome announcement.

New mainline Pokémon games

We believe there will be no major Pokémon games revealed at Pokémon Presents, as Scarlet and Violet’s DLC, The Indigo Disc, has only just been released. However, if it’s announced, we have some ideas about what might be in the works: signs point to a game involving Johto or Unova, thanks to a slew of new Johto evolutions and regional forms and the inclusion of Unova in Scarlet and Violet. It will probably be new Let’s Go or Legends focused on one of the two regions. There is the possibility of a remake of Unova, but we think this is less likely, especially after the release of Pokémon Shining Diamond and Shining Pearl.
