The murder of Claudia Van Der Stichelen (58) makes it painfully clear that aggression against lawyers is no longer an exception in our country. It is only increasing: as many as 1 in 5 lawyers experience physical aggression. This was determined by Advocaat.be – also known as the Flemish Bar Association (OVB) – in a survey of more than 600 lawyers. “The respect for lawyers has disappeared,” says lawyer Walter Damen. “I have also had a bullet in the mailbox and received tons of threats.” The Order is now calling for better protection.
