A doping test was positive for German professional cyclist Michel Hessmann.
This was announced by his team Jumbo-Visma, team of the reigning Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard, on Twitter on Wednesday. It’s about “an out-of-competition check on June 14 in Germany” traded, the team explained: “The product discovered is a diuretic drug. We are awaiting the results of the further investigation. Michel has been suspended by the team until further notice.”
Hessmann, who comes from Münster, was not part of his racing team’s tour line-up. In May he competed in a three-week tour of the Giro d’Italia for the first time and finished it in 33rd place. On August 6, Hessmann represented the German Cyclists’ Association (BDR) in the road race of the World Championships in Glasgow, but he did not reach the finish line.
