The warm weather took a while, but this weekend the sun will show itself in Brabant again. While RIVM and Rijkswaterstaat initiate a heat protocol to warn people, there are also entrepreneurs who are extremely happy with the high temperatures. Swimming pool Feel Fit Center in Goirle, Horeca de Colonie in Breda and Pure Canoe Rental in Valkenswaard Brands immediately: The weather makes a difference.

Swimming pool Feel Fit Center in Goirle was ‘finally’ open again last Friday, after closing for weeks due to a shortage of lifeguards. “A huge relief,” says Ingrid van Pelt, manager of the swimming pool. “On Friday and Saturday it was still relatively quiet, but that didn’t happen wrong. That way we were able to coordinate and start everything with all employees again.”

“Let them come.”

Where the crowds were still left at the start of the weekend, the Storm in Goirle was on Sunday. “It was a great pressure. Yesterday we saw about 50 visitors and today 2500. A huge difference. In the coming days we expect with the tropical schedule, which applies in many schools, nice and busy days in our swimming pool. We are in any case prepared, so let them come.”

Also in Breda, the hospitality business had the Colonie busy days, which the employees and guests have had nice and cool. “Our air conditioning works well,” laughs assistant leader Roos Sanders. The restaurant welcomes guests both inside and outside on the terrace. And especially the latter option was very popular in recent days. “Especially the cocktails, sangria and the Spritz drinks are very popular at the moment. People eat less these days and drink more.”

“People choose the beach faster on tropical days.”

Sanders do expect that the terrace on the tropical afternoons of next week will be a bit quieter. “People still choose the beach faster.” The crowds only start again when the sun goes under. “Then people will sit on the terrace for a small drink.”

“It is always a while to wait and see what will happen.”

“Nothing better than sitting on the water with tropical tempratures,” says Robert van Gennip, owner of Puur Kanoverhuur in Valkenswaard. His company rents canoes to people who want to paddle around the Dommel River. “We must have this kind of days. Our season is only running in the summer. So this is enjoyment for us.”

The company received many ‘last-minute’ bookings in the last few days. “Until the day of the booking rain radar, people keep a close eye on, so we always have to wait and see what will happen in the coming days. The last few days were good, so I have faith in a few fertile days. The weather predicts a lot of good things.”
