From offal to beer: these loads also ended up on the highway

It’s every truck driver’s nightmare: overturning your fully loaded truck and leaving a huge mess on the highway. The A65 exit at Berkel-Enschot turned into a coke river on Tuesday, but it is not the first extreme load to fly over the Brabant road surface.

10,000 kilos of offal
This will still be on the minds of many. Last spring, a truck lost ten tons of offal on the A67 after braking hard and colliding with another truck. The impact caused intestines, animal parts and blood to shoot out of the top of the car. And it all ended up on the passing cars.

150 cases of beer
In Helmond, a roundabout was completely littered with beer bottles after the load started to shift. When the truck entered the roundabout, approximately 150 to 200 crates of beer fell from the truck. The road was eventually cleared with a sweeper truck.

Chicken and satay sauce
Anyone who fancied chicken satay could have fun on the N2 on an October day in 2018. A truck transporting chicken meat and satay sauce crashed into the guardrail and lost its entire load. The entire verge and the road were littered with rubbish and the road was closed for hours.

Dozens of bottles of laughing gas
Emergency services were surprised when dozens of cylinders of laughing gas were spread across the road after an accident on the A16 in Breda. 64 in total. They were transported in a car that crashed into another car. It is not clear whether the occupants had also used this.

Hundreds of thousands of carrots
The verge on the A58 near Bavel turned bright orange two years ago when a truck full of roots overturned. In the middle of the morning rush hour, hundreds of thousands of roots ended up on the roadside. Viewing screens were placed in front of the truck and the mess was only cleared up after rush hour. And that lasted for hours.

Load of concrete blocks
You don’t want to get 1000 kilo heavy concrete blocks on your car. On the A16 at the Zonzeel junction, a truck lost several concrete blocks. The blocks were scattered across the road surface and the road had to be closed. The accident caused long traffic jams during the evening rush hour and it took until midnight to repair the damage to the road.

Kale on the road
Anyone who wanted winter food had to go to the A27 near Bavel in the autumn of 2020. There, dozens of meters of the highway were littered with lettuce and kale. But the truck driver who lost the load probably didn’t notice it himself, because he was nowhere to be seen.

Milky Way
Hundreds of cartons of milk were left on the A2 near Eindhoven after a truck overturned there. The truck went through the median and landed on its side. Another motorist slipped through the eye of the needle and hit the brakes just in time. When he looked in front of him, there were dozens of cartons of milk surrounding his car.
