From Liverpool to AC Milan: Klopp’s favorite, a horror transfer

Apart from a one-year loan to VfL Wolfsburg (2017/18), Divock Origi laced up the boots for Liverpool FC for seven years, winning numerous titles and scoring 41 goals (18 assists) in 175 competitive games for the Reds. However, the Belgian almost always had to be content with playing the joker role. That should actually change after his departure.

“Divock Origi is a legend on and off the pitch, people will write books about him. I won’t miss any player more than him. I know that sounds ridiculous because I don’t use him often. He’s a world-class striker , he is definitely our best finisher,” enthused Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp when it finally became apparent at the end of April that Origi would not extend his contract with Liverpool.

The 27-year-old attacker joined AC Milan in Italy’s Serie A on a free transfer, where he finally wanted to demonstrate his qualities in the starting XI on a regular basis. A good two months after Origi’s signature in the fashion city, however, hope has already been shattered.

The Belgian has been able to try his luck four times so far, four times he came off the bench for a manageable number of minutes. A goal contribution? None!

Has Origi already passed his career peak?

In conversation with the “Daily Mail“The Italian journalist Alvise Cagnazzo takes Origi to court in view of this yield. “There is no doubt who the worst signing of the Serie A season is: Divock Origi,” Cagnazzo rants. “The Belgian left Liverpool in hope finally getting a place in the starting XI at a top club, but his time at AC Milan has been a disaster so far.”

Origi should have caused a stir but his start was marred by bad luck and injuries, Cagnazzo continues. “By the age of 27, every player, especially a striker, should be at their peak. But Origi already seems to be on a downward curve in his career.”
