Two days after the appointment of coach Maurice Verberne, MVV has also signed a new assistant coach: Mark Luijpers.
The former footballer from Cadier en Keer signed a contract for one season on Saturday, plus an option for an extra year.
Return
Luijpers returns to his old nest: he already played for the Sterrendragers in the 1997/1998 season and between 2005 and 2007. And as a child he could often be found at the club. “If little jungske I always went to De Geusselt with my father. With my mouth open, I was looking at players like Cees Schapendonk, Willy van Bommel, Bert van der Poppe and Bert van Marwijk. How nice is it to be able to return as an assistant coach after a few years as a football player in De Geusselt.”
Roda JC and VVV Venlo
Luijpers also played no fewer than 376 games for Roda JC in his professional career. After the central defender had hung up his football boots, he was part of the technical staff of the Kerkrade club for many years. Luijpers then worked as an assistant trainer at the Indian Delhi Dynamos, and in his own country at VVV-Venlo and TOP Oss. Last season, he was the right-hand man of former teammate Bob Peeters for the Ossenaren.
convey experience
Luijpers also had an offer from Greece in his pocket, but quickly came to an agreement with MVV when the people of Maastricht came forward. He is looking forward to working with the young MVV player group. “Analyzing his game with the player through video images, they point out their mistakes and especially opportunities. How wonderful is all this to get started with young guests, to transfer my experience to them.”
Staff
The 51-year-old Luijpers will be one of Verberne’s two assistants at MVV, because Robbie Servais also continues to fill that role. In addition, Luijpers will also view and guide talents in the youth academy.
