From Gotham City to West Friesland: Waarder buys Batmobile for his own museum collection

The Duck Museum in Andijk has added an eye-catcher. This time no special 2CV but the car of superhero Batman. The Heerhugowaard entrepreneur Edwin Groen bought the Batmobile at a car auction in Monaco. “It is a strange duck in the bite, but very nice to have in the collection.”

The Batmobile, a converted Lincoln, was used in the 1960s Batman TV series starring Adam West. Groen actually bought the car more or less by accident. “I didn’t intend to, but when he came by I raised my hand and had it.”

That while it Duck Museum in Andijk – the name says it all – is full of hundreds of ducks of different plumage. Yet Groen could not resist the temptation to buy the iconic car. “I used to have a Dinky Toy from the Batmobile and I loved the series.”

For less than 50 thousand euros, Groen became the owner of the Batmobile. The car is now on display in front of the museum and attracts a lot of attention, according to administrator John Karsten. “A lot of people stop by to take a picture or they want to sit in the car for a while. We never make a fuss about that.”

John Karsten, manager of the museum, and superhero in his spare time, drove through the polder with NH Nieuws.
