Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen have signed Spaniard Borja Iglesias as a replacement for injured striker Victor Boniface.
The 31-year-old center forward comes from Betis Sevilla and is moving to Leverkusen on loan until the summer, as the club announced on Saturday (01/27/24) after the 0-0 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Iglesias, who played two international matches for Spain in 2022 and 2023, had lost his regular place at Betis.
At Bayer he is supposed to replace the Nigerian Boniface, who will be out for a few weeks due to a muscle injury. “With his footballing profile, Borja Iglesias can fill the gap left by Victor’s absence”said Leverkusen managing director Simon Rolfes, according to the club’s statement. Spanish Bayer coach Xabi Alonso said about the new signing: “I know him very well. He could become an important player.”
