With a “peace run” to Warsaw, Scottish extreme runner John McGurk wants to commemorate the victims of the Holocaust and at the same time collect donations for disadvantaged children.

On Saturday, McGurk and his team presented themselves at the symbolic start at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. The charity run will be over 1300 kilometers.

Along the way, the runners plan to lay wreaths in the former Nazi concentration camps of Auschwitz, Majdanek and Treblinka II. At the same time, donations are to be collected for projects such as the Arche, which takes care of around 4,500 children from poor families in Germany. The run should end in a few days at Arka in Warsaw – the Polish Ark.
