From Azteca to New Jersey – the 2026 World Cup final location has been announced

Fifa announced the program for the summer 2026 World Cup tournament.

The AT&T Stadium in the Dallas metropolitan area has hosted no less than nine World Cup matches, the last of which is the semifinal. PDO

The 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament will be held in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

It is the first time that the hosting of the competition is shared between three countries. At the same time, the tournament expands into giant games of no less than 48 teams.

The mega event covering 16 cities and as many as 104 matches starts on June 11.

Fifa published the final tournament program on Sunday. Mexico’s national team, El Tri, will host the opening match at Mexico City’s iconic Azteca Stadium.

Azteca was already the main stage of the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, when it witnessed as the final stage and Pelé that Diego Maradona championships.

Canada (Toronto) and the USA (Los Angeles) will play their opening matches the very next day.

From Fifa’s point of view, the biggest market is of course the USA, so it was clear from the beginning that the final would be played there.

MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL clubs New York Giants and New York Jets, will have the honor of hosting the 2026 Finals.

The stadium is in the city of East Rutherford on the New Jersey side of the metropolis. The WC gold will be awarded on July 19.
