From amateur footballer to TOP Oss top scorer in a few months

In a few months from amateur footballer to top scorer at first division club TOP Oss. It is the story of Kay Tejan. The striker already has ten goals to his name this season while he started with the amateurs of Quick Boys this summer.

Kay Tejan’s story sounds like a boy’s book. The striker made the switch from Cossack boys to Quick Boys last summer. He foresaw a great pre-season with opponents such as Willem II and Telstar and secretly hoped to put himself in the spotlight. “I also had it put in my contract that I could leave if a club came from the Kitchen Champion Division.”

It turned out to be a masterstroke. Tejan had a good preseason. And through his friend Tijjani Noslin he was allowed to test at TOP Oss. “Tijjani is really my buddy. He put in a good word for me with director Peter Bijvelds. It was partly thanks to him that I was allowed to do an internship here.”

He impressed trainer Bob Peeters who in the past played as a striker at the highest level in the Netherlands and Belgium. “Peter came to me with a video of Kay. He played as an amateur but I saw very interesting things. When he did an internship here, he quickly picked up things.”

A special start but with a great result. He got a contract and quickly became important to the team. After half a season, the 25-year-old striker has already scored ten goals. “I did not expect this,” admits Tejan. “But when you see how hard I’ve worked for this, it’s well deserved. It is now a dream come true.”

His trainer also did not expect this development so quickly. “I predicted he would have double figures at the end of the season, but I didn’t expect it halfway through.”

Nevertheless, Peeters is wary of the fact that Tejan will become a one-hit wonder. “He must remain calm. Personally, I also hope he stays here for another year after this season. We are developing as a team and that would be better for his development too.”

Although the striker himself indicates that he remains calm under it, he does dream on. And he noticed last summer with several good friends at Eredivisie clubs. “Maybe someone can put in a good word again,” he says with a wink.

But when he seriously talks about his future, he hopes to one day play in the Eredivisie. “I dream of the Eredivisie. But first I’m going to burn here. I want to finish with at least fourteen goals. Then we’ll see again in the summer.”
