From Achilles of Greece to the Prince of Brunei: the new royal influencers

Llet me be your princess” reads among the over 38 thousand comments on the post where a coffee is prepared live on video. “You’re so funny, now marry me though!” intimate another person.

Handsome, rich, young. Achilles of Greece is named after the hero of the Iliad, whose fatal wrath was sung by Homer.

Achilles, or rather Achileas, turned 23 on August 12thaspiring actor (played minor roles in Beautiful And in the forgettable film with Jennifer LawrenceGirlfriend for rented ), is the virtual demigod of Instagram: he can count on a relative online “army” of 437 thousand followers.

The aristocrat – his father is Prince Paul of Greece and his mother, the billionaire socialite Marie-Chantal Miller – leads the world’s top ten royal influencers.

At least according to new research based on data from Flu Plus, an influencer marketing agency, which also reveals how the main audience of these particular “influencers” is made up of almost 70 percent of women between 25 and 34 years old.

Royal influencer: Achilles of Greece leads the ranking

The virtual “kingdom” of Achilles of Greece is due to the Most High “engagement rate” that manages to provoke, i.e. the high rate of public involvement.

Alone it reaches 16 percent when on average it is around – for mere mortals with the same number of followers – around 5 or 6 percent.

Whatever he says or does is immediately taken up urbi et orbi like a wave that spreads everywhere.

So much so that, when he graduated from the New York University in white pinstripes and loafers, instead of the institutional dark suit, it has been imitated by hordes of recent graduates around the world.

A bit like what happens every day with the so-called “Kate effect” (even if Middleton does not have a personal account, but it is relaunched by the Princes of Wales channel) in which everything one wears makes the fortune of a brand, as happened, for example, recently with the beige linen and silk blazer by Blazé Milano.

Olympia of Greece is also among the most followed royal influencers

Achilles of Greece, like the twenty-seven year old sister Maria-Olympia, socialite by vocation and model by profession, otherwise he doesn’t do anything special, or rather he lives his privileged life between parties, skiing in the mountains and visits to his aristocratic Danish, English and Spanish relatives.

Yet apparently followers love to “spy” on him.

The same thing happens to her sister the princess – in eighth place in the ranking – who on Instagram (almost 300 thousand followers) is a real fashion influencer with her sophisticated and glamorous lookss, mostly made of timeless pieces such as trench coats and checked blazers.

During the recent Milan fashion week it was spotted, for example, at the Gucci Spring Summer 2024 fashion show with a new look, a blonde bob: her so-called “slick bob” immediately became trendy.

Royal influencer at home

The fickle world of social media also likes Dutch very much Eloise van Oranje-Nassau, the Countess of Amsberg, daughter of Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands, i.e. the brother of the current King Willem-Alexander.

Fifth in succession to the throne after her uncle the king, her cousin Amalia and her two sisters Ariane and Alexia, Eloise is 21 years old and has a very respectable career with her 422 thousand followers.

Very famous in her homeland, despite not being a working royal (i.e. without obligations of representation of the crown), in fifth place in the top ten, writes lifestyle books halfway between those of Marie Kondo and Martha Stewart.

In the first, Learning by Doing, reveals her tips for cooking, applying makeup and dressing. Like her cousin Amalia, however, she had to deal with bodyshaming, online hatred for physical appearance. In response, she recently had herself photographed wearing an acid green look on a boat at the Gay Pride in Amsterdam just to underline her independence.

Sassa, royal trend-setter

The Dutch influencer surpasses Rania of Jordan (in sixth place) and Alessandra de Osma of Hannover, Peruvian lawyer, bag designer, model and member of the Hanoverian royal family through her marriage to Prince Christian of Hanover.

Called Sassa in the world she frequents, she is another royal trend-setter known for her chic attitude even with just a pair of jeans on.

What if Charlène of Monaco has literally disappeared from social radar since August 24th (according to the transalpine tabloids she would have been officially forced to close her Instagram account to safeguard her children’s privacy), Princess Madeleine of Sweden has gained positions: her social profile is a hymn to good causes (follows the World Childhood Foundation).

Blonde, blue eyes, ethereal like fairy talespassionate about skiing and horses, goes by the name of Anna Svensson in the competition.

It has 332 thousand followers and is in sixth place in the rankings.

The prince is looking for a wife

However, there are three male names above all that fascinate the social world: Maharaja Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur, Prince Abdul Mateen of Brunei and Prince Hamdan of Dubai, in second, sixth and ninth place in the rankings respectively.

Singh became “maharaja” (great king) in 2011 after the death of his grandfather, Sawai Man Singhji Bahadur, who ascended the throne shortly before royal privileges ceased to be recognized in India.

The 26-year-old made Forbes’ list of the 30 most influential Asians under 30 in the world. He has 347 thousand followers and in his posts he illustrates his great passion for polo. Together with fashion.

Royal bachelors

Tall, dark, sporty and headed towards a military career, however,Prince Mateen of Brunei, son of the current Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah: iHis Instagram profile @Tmski has over 2 and a half million followers.

You can see him in the pool sunbathing, in uniform, in full uniform.

He is among the royal bachelors still free. And he is a very followed royal influencer.

In a post dated September 12th, where I admiredat the Hall of Mirrors of Versailles, in Paris, the first of 227,285 comments is from a woman who writes: “Oh my God, why are you so beautiful.”

Sixteen million followers and an engagement rate of “just” 3.42 percent, finally, for the crown prince of Dubai, Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, known as “Fazza”.

Married since 2019, he recently became a father to Mohammed for the third time. He loves sharing nature shots and aspects of his public life.

His profile picture shows him wearing a simple baseball cap.

It presents itself like this: «Every image has a story and every story has a moment that I would like to share with you». So it is (if you like) to say it with Luigi Pirandello.
