Fritz boxes, Powerline and Smart Home

The router manufacturer AVM is again showing its current products at this year’s IFA in Berlin. A large part of the Fritzboxes was already presented in advance, but can now be seen by consumers for the first time. But AVM also has a completely new device in its luggage.

Fast Internet connections and Smart Home are the focus at AVM this year. In keeping with this, the manufacturer is not only bringing Fritz boxes and powerline adapters to the IFA, the company is also presenting a new door/window contact. TECHBOOK summarizes which products can be seen at AVM’s IFA stand.

New Fritz boxes at the IFA

The Fritz boxes that AVM is showing at the IFA are not that new. The manufacturer presented the Fritzbox 5690 Pro at the beginning of the year at the MWC, the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. However, the router for fiber optics and DSL has not yet made it onto the market, which is why it is the first opportunity for consumers to take a look at the device at the IFA.

The Fritzbox 5690 Pro combines fiber optics and (V)DSL for the first time and is therefore particularly interesting for users for whom fiber optics is still being expanded and will only be available in the future. The device stands upright on the table, but has a slightly more rounded housing than previous models of this type. The router supports the new WiFi generation 7 and thus enables WiFi mesh not only in the 2.4 and 5 GHz band, but also in the 6 GHz band. The Fritzbox also comes with a DECT station, various LAN and USB connections and supports Smart Home via DECT ULE, Zigbee and Matter.

AVM would like to launch the Fritzbox 5690 Pro this winter for a price of 339 euros.

Also at the fair is the Fritzbox 6670 Cable, which AVM presented in May. This router can also be viewed by users for the first time at the IFA and is not yet commercially available. The device was developed for use on cable connections. Like the Fritzbox 5690 Pro, the 6670 Cable WiFi 7 supports theoretical speeds of up to 46 Gbit/s. The 2.5 gigabit LAN port and four other LAN ports also ensure a fast Internet connection in the home network. A telephone system, an integrated TV tuner and smart home support via DECT ULE, Zigbee and Matter are also part of the equipment.

The Fritzbox 6670 Cable is scheduled to go on sale in the course of the fourth quarter at an RRP of EUR 289.

AVM shows new Powerline adapter and door/window contact at the IFA

The Fritz Powerline 1240 AX appeared without much introduction. AVM showed it for the first time at the Anga Com in Cologne, and now end customers can also examine the Powerline adapter at the IFA. According to AVM, the adapter will then be available as a set together with the Powerline 1210 from the end of the year for 159 euros. The device distributes the Internet connection over the power line and allows speeds of up to 1200 Mbit/s. Up to 600 Mbit/s are possible via WiFi 6 in the 2.4 GHz band.

The door/window contact Fritz!DECT 350 from AVM celebrates its premiere at the IFAPhoto: AVM

On the other hand, the Fritz!DECT 350, a door/window contact for the smart home, is completely new. On many Euro-rebate windows, it can be concealed between the window frame and window sash using the adhesive strip provided. The small adapter detects when doors or windows are opened, closed or tilted and sends the signal to the DECT ULE sensor. This in turn communicates with the smart Fritz!DECT 302 and 301 radiator controllers, which can then turn down the heating when the doors and windows are open. For control and for more security, the status of the sensor is also displayed in the Fritz!App Smart Home, on the Fritz!Fon and in Fritz!OS.

According to AVM, the market launch is planned for the end of the year or the beginning of next year. The RRP is 39 euros.
